In 1980, UNESCO recognized the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park as a World Biosphere Site and in 1987 this park was awarded the class of a World Heritage site. The Kilauea volcano in the Hawaii National Park is an active volcano which erupts daily and results in the production of up to 650,000 cubic yards of lava every day. Which means that there has been an addition of 491 acres of land to Hawaii Island until January 1994.
