Kaieteur Falls is a part of the Kaieteur National Parkin Guyana. It is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world. According to this legend, the waterfall got its name from the name of Kai, an Indian chief who sacrifices himself to Maconaima, to save his people. There is another legend which says that an old man was placed in a boat and the relatives of that old man shoved the boat in the fall. Therefore the waterfall got its name, Kaieteur, meaning old-man-fall. The Kaieteur Falls is a major tourist attraction in Guyana but its location is quite remote. That is the reason why there are not many tourists who visit the falls at the same time. Which means that unlike Niagara Falls, you will be able to enjoy this place without too much disturbance. You can visit the Kaieteur Falls for a day trip or you can stay overnight. You can find lodgings in the areas near the park for the overnight trip. You can visit the fall all year around but the best time will be after the monsoon season as the waterfall is at its best. Only way you can reach the Kaieteur Falls is by flying there. You can make the bookings from your hotels and guest houses in Georgetown area. If you book your trip well in advance, you won’t have to pay a higher rate.
