How to Block or Unlock Contacts in WhatsApp

Before blocking someone on WhatsApp, one should know what the blocking feature actually does. So here are the details:-

1. The messages sent by blocked contacts will never be shown or delivered to you.
2. Your “Last Seen At…” and “Online” information will not be seen by the blocked contact(s).
3. Changes to profile picture will not be seen by the blocked contact(s).
4. You will not be able to send messages to the blocked contact(s).

A common query is if the blocked contact will be able to tell if they have indeed been blocked by you. There are certain things that the blocking feature in WhatsApp does not do. Here are the two major ones:-

1. Your status message will be visible to blocked contact(s).
2. Blocked contact(s) will be still visible in your contacts list and you will be still visible in their contacts list.

Block Contacts on WhatsApp

Blocking is a feature that is widely used when an individual(s) are consistently bothering someone, in case there is a contact that you don’t want to be associated with ever then deleting the contact is the best option.

With that said here is how to block contacts in various phone platforms:-

Block WhatsApp Contacts on Android

1. Open WhatsApp, and then go to Chat Screen.

1. Tap 메뉴 > 설정 > Contacts > Blocked Contacts.
2. If you haven’t blocked any contacts previously then there won’t be any contacts listed. The contacts you do block will be added to this list.

1. Select Add Block Contacts on top right icon.

1. Select the contact you want to block.

Block WhatsApp Contacts on iPhone

1. In iPhone there is a block option available firsthand when a message arrives from a contact that is not in the address book. In this case you can tap block, which is on top left and immediately block the contact.
2. If you want to block contacts that are already in the address book then follow the below steps.
3. Open WhatsApp.
4. Go to 설정>Chat Settings>Blocked

 

1. Tap the + icon on the top right.

1. Select the contacts you want to block and then select Done.

Blocking WhatsApp Contacts on Blackberry

You can block any WhatsApp contacts on BlackBerry phones, follow the guide mentioned below -

1. Open WhatsApp.
2. Select 설정 on top right (the gear icon).

1. Select Blocked Contacts and add the contacts you want to block.
2. Unknown contacts can also be easily blocked, by going to the message of the unknown number, tapping the blackberry button and selecting Block.

Blocking on Windows Phone

The same thing happens when you are on Windows Phone as well, follow the guide -

1. In case of unknown number, open the Message.
2. Tap the three dots (…) on the bottom right corner.

1. Select Block.
2. For known contacts follow the below steps.
3. Open WhatsApp.
4. Select the three dots (…) on the bottom right corner.
5. Go to 설정 > Blocked Contacts.
6. Tap the + icon and select the contacts you want to block.

Unblock WhatsApp Contacts

After blocking certain contacts, you may want to unblock them in the future. Here are the steps how to unblock contacts on WhatsApp in various phone platforms:-

Android

1. Open WhatsApp.
2. Tap 메뉴 > 설정 > Contacts > Blocked Contacts
3. Here the contacts that have been previously blocked will be listed.
4. Long-press the contact you want to unblock.
5. Select Unblock

Unblock on iPhone

1. Open WhatsApp.
2. Go to 설정>Chat Settings>Blocked
3. Tap Edit, then Tap the minus sign that is visible in front of the contacts that are blocked.
4. Tap Delete and then Tap Done.

Unblock on Blackberry

1. Open WhatsApp
2. Select Settings on the top right corner (the gear icon).
3. Select Blocked Contacts.
4. Select the contacts you want to unblock.
5. Press the blackberry icon button on the phone.
6. Choose Unblock.

Unblock on Windows Phone

1. Open WhatsApp
2. Select the three dots (…) on the bottom right corner.
3. Select 설정>Blocked Contacts.
4. Long-press the contact you want to unblock.
5. Select Delete.
