Annapurna Devi temple located in Indore is one of the ancient temples and also among the famous temples of Indore. Located in Sudama Nagar Indore, the temple shows deep a likeness to Meenakshi temple located in Madhurai, with resemblance in four elephants at the entrance.
On splitting the word Annapurna we obtain, a Sanskrit word whose meaning is food and purna which means accomplish or pure, therefore Annapurna is depicted as the goddess of food. She is believed to be the avtar or a part of goddess Parvati.
Inside the Temple
As we enter the temple, four elephants pose to welcome you attractively. Next to gate is a big veranda with various god and goddess all around, with major shrines of lord Hanuman, Kal Bhairav, Shiva and many others. The main attraction resides in an idol of goddess Annapurna Devi, holding various shringars of dresses and jewellery. Another rare thing in the temple is Kashi Vishwanath’s huge idol. The temple also owns a great pravachan hall.
The walls inside the temple are well painted with various designs. Also various ancient architectures can be seen inside the temple premises.
Beliefs
In India, Hindus believe that the food is divine offered by Annapurna Devi, hence worshipping the goddess will never cause shortage of food. Therefore most men usually join hands and pray to god just before having a meal. Hence believers show their heartly devotion toward her.
Akshay Tritya, the most awaited moment by many, is believed to be the born day of the goddess Annapurna maa. On this holy day people feel glad to buy gold; therefore a lot of gold transactions occur in a single day.
Many localite spirituals visit the holy temple regularly to grab the blessings.
Annapurna Devi Temple Timings
The temple runs for 13 hours. At morning 7:00 am the temple gets open and finally at 8:00 pm gets closed. Regular puja are held inside the temple by holy temple’s priests. Various special pujas are offered by the priests on demands of needy ones.

Located in the mid of the city, the temple has conveniences available to reach. Various sources are available near the temple to rush to any destination in the city. Direct sources are available from railway station or bus stand to reach the temple.
